Targeted ministries: Encourages members of our Congregation to become involved in the life and mission of our church. We are a Lutheran family, gathered together to worship God and carry out our mission.
Our overall mission as God’s children is to
Love God, Love our neighbor and make disciples.
Worship Ministry: Plans the Worship life of the Congregation. Guides the format of the Worship services that are held every Sunday morning at 8:30 and 11:00.
Holy Communion is celebrated on every first and third Sunday of the month and on festival days. Ordained pastors are preferred to distribute Communion but members of the Congregation fill this office when a pastor is not available.
Mid-week services are held during Lent after a Congregational Lenten meal.
Candlelight services are held on Christmas eve. There is no service on Christmas day when the Congregation is encouraged to spend this time of celebration with their families.
Choirs: The church has two choirs. A 19 member senior voice choir provides song during each of our Sunday services, led by our musical director. An 8 member hand bell choir provides occasional music at both of our services. Anyone who loves to sing is invited to join the choir.
Altar Flowers for Sunday worship: Provided by The Daisy Fair Flowers in Conway and paid for by individuals in the Congregation in celebration of a special event or in memory of a person or persons. Call the church office (Tuesday – Friday, 9am – 1 pm) to order altar flowers. Please keep in mind there may be others who wish the same date, so call early.
Care and Prayer Ministry: Leads the Congregation in its ministry of sharing Christian love in times of joy, sorrow, illness, hospitalization or death. They are divided into 10 teams that take turns preparing Lenten midweek soups and sandwiches and other meal occasions.
James Ministry: As an extension of the Care and Prayer Ministry. the origin of the James Ministry may be found in James 5:13-16. It is a ministry of Love, Faith and Healing.
“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another , that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
Education Ministry: gives leadership to the various Christian education ministries of the church, including Sunday school studies, Bible studies and Catechetical programs leading to confirmation.
Sunday School: for all ages (adult, youth, confirmation) is held at 10 am year round.
Fellowship Ministry: provides opportunities for fellowship and social events for the Congregation.
Long-Range planning Ministry: Leads the Congregation in developing and planning for the future of the church. Long-Range planning was responsible for the implementation of the Columbarium, allowing members and spouses eternal rest on church grounds.
Outreach / Evangelism / Membership Ministry: leads the Congregation in outreach to the unchurched of the community and seeks to reactivate inactive members.
Property/ Building Maintenance Ministry: maintains the buildings and grounds of the church. This ministry accepts requests from the Congregation and repairs / replaces outdated and broken equipment to make sure our church presents a neat and well-maintained appearance. Recently, solar panels were installed on the rear roof of the Fellowship building, resulting in a significant saving in electrical costs.
Resource Ministry: encourages the giving of time, talents and treasures to the Lord’ ministry in the church and provides for the proper maintenance and distribution of those resources.
The Resource Ministry team creates the annual budget for the church allowing for the proper distribution of the Congregation’s resources maintained by the Congregation Treasurer.
Social Ministry Ministry: oversees the Congregation’s ministry among the needy of the church and the community.
Examples of assistance would be volunteering to cook and serve the homeless at the Shepherd’s table, donating emergency assistance groceries to the Churches Assisting People (CAP) for families in need, providing clothing and school supplies for needy children through Fostering Hope and working community blood drives.
Church Staff Ministry: provides a table for sharing concerns of the Congregation with the salaried staff of the church.
Lutheran Church Youth Ministry: Currently our youth numbers, ages 11-18 are at an ebb. However fund raising for youth-sponsored projects continues through extra Congregational coin donations at both services on the last Sunday of every five-week month (four per year), known as the “Noisy Offerings” due to the sound of coin being dropped into metal cans. Cash offerings are also welcome. In recent times, the youth offerings have contributed to projects undertaken by our other ministries.
Lutheran Men in Mission: a fellowship of men meeting the last Saturday of each month for breakfast @ 8.30. They discuss topics of service and projects they might accomplish for our church with their labor and money from their fundraising.
Scholarship Ministry: provides a $1,000 scholarship for our graduating high school seniors. These scholarships are funded by contributions to the Susan B. Handy memorial scholarship fund around Mother’s day.
